Neil Rix

Managing Director

Neil has been in the construction business for over 40 years. A scaffolder since 15, he started the company in 1987 and has built it from the ground up. Neil is always the first in the office, and the last out continually strives to keep ahead of the competition.

Neil has strong ties to the local community; he is currently is a Dover town councillor, and between 2016-2018 Neil was Mayor of Dover as well as also serving as Speaker of the Cinque ports in 2016. In 2020 Neil was made an honorary member of the Leadership Council of Great Britain and Northern Ireland in recognition of his contribution to the industry during the COVID-19 pandemic.

A family man, he spends most weekends with his nine grandchildren, outshooting or walking his many dogs.

Ricky Mackintosh

Commercial Director

Ricky has been working in the access industry since leaving school, having completed his apprenticeship with us he then flew the nest for pasture new in London before returning as an estimator. With 15 years of estimating and surveying experience, Ricky, now a commercial director, has a great love for business development systems, keeping an edge via all things data for CRM and CVR software. He is always looking to grow the company successfully in these ever-changing times with his team.

A member of the chartered institute of arbitrators, HND in engineering, NVQ level 7 and set to complete his BSc (Hons) in commercial management QS. His passion for CPD training is just as high as his knowledge of problem-solving.

Having recently retired from the Canterbury Rugby Men’s 1st XV, you will now find Ricky most weekends out with his family and dogs or at home in his garden.

Ben Rix

Operational Director

Ben, Neil’s son, started Labouring on his 16th birthday and shortly after completed his Part 1 scaffolding course. He passed Part 2 at 18 and his Advanced scaffolder at 20. He holds Advanced Scaffold inspection, Supervisor (Gold), SSSTS & IOSH qualifications as well as NVQ Level 6 in operations management.

He has worked onsite for over ten years on a range of projects both on and offshore.

As the Operations Director, Ben oversees our Contracts Manager and the day to day running of the scaffold gang and Liaises with the logistics team to ensure the smooth running of the operations. During the season you can find Ben down at Dover Sharks Rugby club where he plays and socialises.

Jon Foster

Estimating Director

Jon Joined N.T.Rix in 2017 to manage Dover Demolition and in the two and a half years since he has worked steadily on gaining additional qualifications to assist in the running of the company. Jon is now proud to say that he holds SSSTS, SMSTS, IOSH qualifications as well as NVQ Level 6 qualification in Site Management.

Jon provides clients with advice on any potential demolition, soft Strip or clearance jobs, as well as oversees a team of 10 – 20 men and the day to day running of our Skip hire and Waste disposal company, N. T. Rix Skips.

Out of hours, Jon is a dedicated family man who he enjoys spending time with his wife and children and playing rugby for Dover Sharks.

John McNicoll

Operations Manager

John started his career with us as an apprentice, left once qualified and returned years later as our Operations Manager. He has 24 years scaffolding experience and his qualifications include; Advanced Scaffolder, Advanced Scaffold Inspection, Supervisor (Gold) SSSTS & IOSH.

He oversees everything in operations and ensures that N.T.Rix complies with our contractual obligations in accordance with clients requirement.

In his spare time, he is a sports writer and an avid Man United fan. He is well known around the office for his sweet stash!

Jenna Mackintosh

Transport Manager

Jenna is Neil’s eldest daughter. She has worked within the family business since she was 18 and started helping out with general admin alongside working as a Horse-Riding Instructor. She put her equine career on hold to raise a family and continued to work in our Head Office.

Jenna is now the named Transport Manager on our Operators licence having  since gained her Transport Management Diploma, Transport Management CPC and undertaken her HGV training. She ensures the fleet is fully operational working in conjunction with the operational teams.

Alongside Transport, Jenna has recently undertaken managing our newest venture; N.T.Rix Logistics.

Chris Young

Contracts Supervisor

Chris has recently joined N.T.Rix as our Contracts supervisor after a requirement to help manage the current workload as turnover increased.

He has an engineering background and originally trained as a Welding Fabricator before moving into the scaffolding sector. He has now spent 15 years either as a scaffold contracts manager or contracts supervisor.

His role at N.T.Rix is to supervise sites & ensure everything is up to our high standards. He holds a Scaffold Inspector certification.

Outside of work he is a keen stock car racer, he utilises his welding skills to improve to his race car and is the 10x champ at the Coombe Valley track.

Angela Pentecost

Senior Office Manager

Angela has been with N.T.Rix from the start, supporting Neil & the company with any and all administrative duties. Over the years she has been responsible for bookkeeping, wages, correspondence, insurance, accounts, office management, Angela has done it all.

In her spare time, she spends time gardening, reading and loves to watch a good film!

Sarah Fuller

Office Manager

Sarah is Neil’s niece and recently celebrated 20 years with N.T.Rix Scaffolding. She joined the company to help Angela with the increased administration as the company began to grow, beginning as an administration assistant and progressing to Office Manager.

Sarah is an integral part of our team at N.T.Rix, from invoicing our main contracts, managing payroll, organising training and booking the courses for our operational teams – there’s nothing Sarah doesn’t do!

Sophie Newman

Business Development

Sophie has recently joined the team at N.T.Rix to support Ricky with Business Development. A Kent local, she worked as an account manager in the construction industry before leaving to travel Australia & New Zealand for two years returning in March 2020.

She is responsible for finding and securing new business as well as building relationships with clients. She also runs our social media and assisted in the rebrand of N.T.Rix, including the design of this website!

Stu Buddle

Fleet Support Foreman

Stuart has been with N.T.Rix for the past seven years and works as part of the transport team as well as a general handyman/fitter. He is responsible for fleet management of over 30 vehicles. This includes organising and undertaking maintenance to ensure the vehicles are safe on the road as well as general admin. He also maintains and oversees the smooth running of the Dover Demolition plant as well as the hoists for N.T.Rix Hoists.

Lee Bond

Yard Foreman

Known by everyone as Bondy, Lee has been working for N.T.Rix for the past 20 years. As the Yard foreman, he is responsible for loading and unloading lorries, servicing equipment and the general upkeep of the yard.

He also manages the First year apprentices during their time in the yard before they move on to site to continue their education.

Alison Murphy

Administrator

Alison joined the office team at N.T.Rix in July 2019 to work alongside Jon Foster in supporting and developing the Dover Demolition and N. T. Rix Skips brands. She has an extensive background in all aspects of office administration and has over 25 years’ experience.

Alison has previously spent many years living and working overseas in both West Africa, as well as Saudi Arabia and Qatar, in the Middle East. Outside of work Alison loves being outdoor; be it in her garden or going on long cross country hikes.

Operational Teams

Whether it be Scaffolding, Demolition or mobile plant, all of our operatives hold Certification for work undertaken. Our teams hold over 100 years experience and we ensure our workers are fully trained and hold a relevant CSCS card. We aim to hire locally near to site to ensure that money goes back into the community, not just in Kent but all over London and the South East.

Safety of our operatives is of highest-importance to us so we ensure full PPE is worn and Toolbox Talks take place on a weekly basis to keep operatives up to date on site-specific hazards.

Poppy Joannides

Office Administration Apprentice

Poppy has recently joined N.T.Rix as a Business Administration Apprentice.

She works closely with our office staff supporting them with admin tasks and is already a valuable member of the team. Her apprenticeship lasts 18 months ending with a full time position in the office at N.T.Rix.

Outside of work Poppy is a member of the Vista Twisters cheerleading team and competes on the level 5 squad. She is due to go to Florida in 2021 to compete in the World Championships.

Scaffolding Apprentices

Every year we take on between 5 and 7 scaffolding apprentices, N.T.Rix are proud to re-invest in the community with local school leavers.

Our apprenticeships begin in our Dover yard and over the course of 4 years are the apprentices are trained to become fully qualified Part 1 and Part 2 Scaffolders. In a mixture of on-site and college-based learning the apprentices learn everything they need to know and a full-time position is offered at the end of the apprenticeship.
